About the Archive
March, 2007
We are pleased to present the main sections in the creation and development of the evolving data base of the Israeli Radical Left. The long range vision of this project is to continue to digitalize many more items (leaflets, internal documents, newspaper articles and press clippings, movement periodicals, photographs, protocols and other materials).
The origins of the current developing data base are in the private archive of Dafna and Reuven Kaminer. However, it is hoped that the inauguration of the data base and widespread acquaintance with its existence will encourage many people in possession of relevant material to take steps to add such items to the existing material. In general, the data base is devoted mainly to the radical left and the women's peace movement during the sixties, seventies and the eighties. It is in this period, immediately preceding the introduction of computer technologies, that the bulk of the Kaminer collection was gathered. Naturally enough, the spread of computerized documentation throughout society and the left in the early nineties has made the preservation and the recovery of movement materials a vastly simpler goal. We will consider up dating the collections with computerized materials from later years, at a later stage.
Groups Covered:
The basic categorization is based on the different groups active in the radical left. We have not covered the parties of the Zionist left or the Communist Party of Israel because these well established parties issued over the years a steady stream of information and materials through their own newspapers and party press. These materials, which are of course, essential for following the work of the left, are generally available from standard library and institutional sources.
We cannot presume to have gathered complete records of the work of the various groups. But we are sure that the materials included in the data base give invaluable and comprehensive insight into the work and struggles of those who trail blazed the paths to peace and equality in this country.

Because of very limited funds, this website is hosted at a designated personal computer and this may involve slower reaction time.
Naturally, there are many new challenges regarding the vision and the scope of the entire project. We hope to consult with many friends and interested parties regarding these. You are encouraged to follow our work and its progress. It goes without saying that we are interested in suggestions and offers of additional archival material.
